real.de gets a new name: discounter giant takes over popular online shop

The SCP Group has concluded a contract with the Schwarz Group for the sale of Real’s digital business, including the online marketplace real.de. This emerges from a corresponding message from the SCP Group.

The Schwarz Group is one of the largest retailers in Germany: the empire also includes the discounter giants Kaufland and Lidl. Lidl already operates a successful online shop. In 2018 Lidl.de generated sales of 757 million euros.

Kaufland had started a grocery shop again, but it was quickly closed. In the meantime, the company is experimenting with a “Kaufland brings it” online trade for household and electronic products.

In perspective, real.de should continue under the name Kaufland. “The online platform is intended to complement the stationary business and expand the offer for customers and trading partners,” says a press release from the Schwarz Group.

There is no information about the purchase amount. Both parties have agreed not to disclose details of the acquisition.
