RB Leipzig wins in Augsburg – Dortmund wins thanks to Reus

Berlin (AP) – RB Leipzig has successfully defended the table lead with a win in the unexpected top game of the Bundesliga against FC Augsburg. The team of coach Julian Nagelsmann prevailed 2-0 (1-0) against the Swabians and remains undefeated.

When the pursuers met, Borussia Dortmund won 1-0 (0-0) at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Promoted VfB Stuttgart celebrated their second away win in a row with a 2-0 (1-0) win at Hertha BSC. Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, ended their previous misery: With the 1-0 (1-0) at FSV Mainz 05 and their first win of the season, the Werkself aggravated the crisis at Rheinhessen. The SC Freiburg and Werder Bremen parted 1: 1 (1: 1). Eintracht Frankfurt has the chance on Sunday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) to draw level with Leipzig with a victory on points.

Front runner RB had to do without the Malian national player Amadou Haidara after a positive corona test, at Hoffenheim, among other things, top striker Andrej Kramaric was missing due to an infection with the virus. The coronavirus pandemic also made itself felt in the stands: on Saturday, more than 1000 spectators were allowed in the stadiums in Sinsheim (6030) and Berlin (4000).

In terms of sport, Leipzig impressed in a duel with the Augsburgers, who had not lost this season. The victory after a header from Spaniard Angelino (45th minute) and a volleyball dream goal from Yussuf Poulsen (66th) was well deserved.

At Dortmund, top talent Erling Haaland initially only stayed on the bench after the exhausting internationals and Marco Reus. In the crucial scene, the Norwegian and the BVB captain were decisively involved after their substitution: In the penalty area, Haaland crossed Reus in the 76th minute, who pushed in without any problems.

After the victory at the beginning, the trend at Hertha BSC is clearly pointing downwards. The third defeat in a row accompanied the Berlin fans with whistles. Opponent Stuttgart continued their best start to the season in nine years thanks to Marc-Oliver Kempf (9th minute) and Gonzalo Castro (68th).

Leverkusen’s Lucas Alario (30th minute) spoiled the home premiere for Mainz coach Jan-Moritz Lichte. Werder extended their good start to the season and remained undefeated in their third game in a row. The Austrian Philipp Lienhart (15th minute) initially brought Freiburg into the lead. Shortly afterwards Niclas Füllkrug (25th) scored the final score with a penalty kick.
