RB Leipzig beats Hoffenheim 1-0: Christopher Nkunku makes winning comeback in tailor-made start to the “Week of Truth”

Tailor-made start to the “Week of Truth” for Leipzig!

RB beats Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga 1-0 and can confidently go into the Freiburg double pack! On Tuesday the cup semifinals will take place in Freiburg, on Saturday the “Champions League final” will take place in Freiburg. By the way, the people of Leipzig don’t stay in Breisgau, but fly back home in between.

Man of the day is RB superstar Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman celebrates his starting XI comeback after tearing a hamstring in the game against Dortmund on March 3. And promptly make it 1-0!

To cheer, Nkunku inflates a red balloon that he had hidden in the nozzle. A shout out to his little son (2) who loves balloons so much. He did it back in November after scoring against Donetsk in the Champions League.

After just one minute and 30 seconds, Nkunku had the first mega chance free-standing — blocked!

10. Minute: Laimer hits it from 16 meters – Baumann steers the thing around the post.

14. Minute: The next XXL chance for RB! After Geiger’s bad pass, Werner skids over it from 15 meters.

Line judge slows down Werner

RB Managing Director Max Eberl is sitting in the stands in a piggy-pink colored hoodie with a black jacket over it.

22. Minute: Strange scene! Werner dashes along the outside line on the right, but then the assistant referee stands in the way – and the national striker is at a disadvantage in the running duel with Akpoguma.

26. Minute: First chance for guests! Bebou shoots wide from 10 meters. In return, space spoils the next good chance for RB.

28. Minute: 1:0! Nkunku slides in with the left from nine meters to the Forsberg dream pass. His first goal of 2023! He scored his last goal exactly 171 days ago against Freiburg (3:1). Brooks started it all with a bad pass.

The Frenchman and Timo Werner together in the starting line-up up front — that was last on the 12th matchday. In the 2-0 win against Leverkusen at the end of October, both scored a goal.

38. Minute: Crazy! Bebou slams the ball free-standing from six (!) Meters over the empty goal. The referee assistant waves, apparently decides offside. However, the TV pictures refute this.

59. Minute: That’s rare too! Change of four at RB. Halstenberg, Olmo, Silva and Diallo come in for Raum, Forsberg, Gvardiol — and Nkunku.

74. Minute: Silva hammers the ball from 12 meters to the crossbar. The first RB chance in round two. Until then, the host will find it extremely difficult with good Hoffenheimers.

78. Minute: Halstenberg bangs the ball from 14 meters just past the box.
