Razer BlackShark V2, accessible and THX please

Razer continues to expand its line of accessories in the esports world and just announced its new THX certified headset, the BlackShark V2.

Decidedly, 2020 is a year apart and while we thought we would spend a summer in peace, brands no longer stop announcing new products. Today it’s Razer which has just announced its new esport headphones, the BlackShark V2.

“Working with professional gamers, we identified the key areas where esports headsets needed improvement – sound position, clarity of communications and noise cancellation,” said Alvin Cheung, Senior Vice President of Peripherals Business Unit. “By looking at those three areas and integrating the solutions into the BlackShark V2, we’ve created a great headset. And by adding the new THX gaming profiles, we’ve turned the great into the unbeatable ”

The Razer BlackShark V2 is thus equipped with new patented 50mm drivers, the Razer TriForce Titanium, thus with a titanium coating, which separates the audio frequencies and allows individual adjustment of treble, mids and bass, resulting in clearer highs, rich mids and powerful bass. Added to this is technology THX Spatial Audio which optimizes the audio spatialization from any stereo source, 5.1 and 7.1. As a result, in games it is easier to detect the direction of sounds, particularly useful in first-person shooters for example. Razer even talks about an unfair advantage.

And since it’s an esport helmet, Razer has also worked on the microphone and delivers with the BlackShark V2 a cardioid microphone with the technology HyperClear which allows, with the USB sound card, to cancel ambient noise and therefore to concentrate on the voice of the player. With the USB sound card, other options are available such as Mic Boost, Voice Gate, volume normalization or the microphone equalizer.

Otherwise, we find an over-the-ear design, so understand that the atria completely cover the ear and do not come crashing into the ear for more long-term comfort. The cushions are in foam (memory form) lined with imitation leather and adapt to the face, which allows for a certain passive insulation. The headband is flexible type with a stainless steel structure and the whole is only 262g. Note that without the sound card, the Razer BlackShark V2 can be used via its jack for other devices and consoles.

“We tested the Razer BlackShark V2 prototype and were quickly convinced of its in-game benefits,” said Tal “Fly” Aizik of Evil Geniuses. “Using it in many training sessions, it was comfortable to wear, and the sound quality from the game and the mic is excellent – it really kept me focused on my game.”

And finally, with THX, THX profiles can be found for a better gaming experience. These profiles can be specific to each game and above all can be certified by the developers. THX gaming profiles offer two distinct modes: THX environment for realistic sound and immersive experience or mode THX Competition, which places more emphasis on spatial awareness and directional cues, for faster and more precise location of enemies. Games already offer support for THX profiles like Apex Legends, Counter-Strike: GO, COD: Modern Warfare, etc.

Comes with a USB sound card, the Razer BlackShark V2 is available at the price of 109,99 euros. Game profiles THX will be available from August 6, 2020 via Razer Synapse. Note the BlackShark V2 X, a version with 50mm drivers without the titanium coating and especially without a USB sound card, at a price of 69.99 euros, therefore more accessible.
