Ralph Rangnick will leave Manchester United this season. The interim manager from Germany did not take up the role of team consultant, which was supposed to start next season.
According to an announcement on the MU official website, Sunday (29/5/2022), Rangnick made this decision so that he could fully focus on being a coach Austrian National Teama department assigned to him since April 29 last.
Thus, Rangnick will no longer help United build a squad for next season with a new manager, Erik ten Hag. Austria will feature in the UEFA Nations League starting next month, and Rangnick is responsible for a good result there.
“We thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the last six months. By mutual agreement, Ralf will be fully focused on his new duties as manager of the Austrian national team and will not be taking on a consulting role at Old Trafford,” read a MU statement.
“Wishing Ralf every success in this new chapter of his career.”
Rangnick’s journey at Manchester United was not very good. He failed to bring the Red Devils into the Champions League next season, after finishing sixth in the Premier League standings with 58 points, the club’s lowest number in the Premier League.
The notes he recorded while coaching Cristiano Ronaldo et al were also ordinary. From 29 matches, he only brought MU to win 10 times, drew 11 times, and lost 8 times.
