Preliminary survey shows that students and staff in 9th and 10th grade at Rana ungdomsskole are affected. From last week, employees and students in the 8th grade are affected by previous outbreaks.

Therefore, Rana municipality, in consultation with the National Institute of Public Health and the County Governor, has decided that all students and staff at the school will be kept at home on Wednesday.

This is done to give the infection detection team better time for mapping, the municipality writes in a press release.

– We have received positive test results which means that more students and staff at Rana ungdomsskole are affected, says communications manager Connie Slettan Olsen in the municipality to NRK.

– Is it relevant to close more schools?

– It may be relevant, but the further survey will give us answers to that. So far, we are only talking about Wednesday, so we’ll see what happens.

Unclear

This applies to students and staff at both the Mo department and the Moheia department. Students and staff receive further information directly from the school.

According to the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training, the school is Norway’s largest, and has just over 800 students.

On Monday, municipal chief physician Frode Berg requested that all planned events in the municipality this week be canceled.

– It is clear that the Rana community is affected by the situation we are in now. The situation right now is a bit confusing. Both the school and others are affected by this.

Relieves Mo and Rana

This week, Nordland County Municipality has also tightened up public transport.

County director for transport and infrastructure, Odd Inge Bardal, encourages all passengers in Rana and Bodø to look at the possibilities for alternative transport.

– When the situation becomes like this, we will have to tighten the measures in public transport, and look at opportunities to relieve in pressure areas such as Mo i Rana. We will do what we can, but are also completely dependent on help from the passengers, said county council leader and crisis leader Tomas Norvoll on Monday.
