Captain Sergio Ramos emphasized on Thursday after the championship match against Villarreal (2-1) that trainer Zinedine Zidane played a very big role in the successful season of Real Madrid.
“Zidane is the key to this title,” said 34-year-old Ramos in an initial reaction after becoming Champion for the fifth time with Real. “He is the captain of this ship. He gives us a lot of confidence and we always feel that he fully supports us.”
Zidane, 48, who was a player at ‘De Koninklijke’ between 2001 and 2006, has been working on his second period as a trainer at Real since March 2019. He previously sat on the bench with the Madrid people between 2016 and 2018.
In total, the Frenchman Real led to eleven prizes: twice the title, three times the Champions League, twice the World Cup for clubs, twice the European super cup and twice the Spanish super cup. On average, he wins one prize per nineteen duels in Madrid.

“It’s a separate season”
Real owes the title to the strong series after the corona break. The Madrilenians were two points behind leader FC Barcelona when the season resumed in June, but due to ten wins in a row, the brand new champion now has seven points ahead of the arch rival with one game to go.
“It’s a separate season,” said Ramos. “But our goal was clear when the season resumed: we wanted to win every game. We just wanted to look at ourselves, not at others.”
