Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Shadow Legacy, our tried in the company of Sam Fisher

We tried Operation Shadow Legacy the new Rainbow Six Siege operation that introduces Sam Fisher among the operators of the game.

In these days we have had the opportunity to preview the additions that will be introduced in Rainbow Six Siege – Operation Shadow Legacy. The most striking news is certainly the return of Sam Fisher in a video game in the Tom Clancy’s series, although not in its Splinter Cell. Shadow Legacy will be the first Operation of the new support format that Ubisoft has designed for its competitive title. A single new operator, a rework of a game map and many other small (but no less important) news. But let’s go into detail.

The return of Sam Fisher

Zero, the new attack operator, is a more mature Sam Fisher than we saw him in his latest iteration. Also interpreted in this case by Luca Ward, he will help Team Rainbow with his unique gadget called Argus Launcher. Basically Sam Fisher will have a gun that can fire four special cameras capable of exploiting a camera laser. The peculiarity of these cameras is the possibility of adhering to breakable surfaces and, by piercing the wall, being used on both sides of the wall. Zero is equipped with a SC3000K assault rifle (Sam Fisher’s iconic shotgun) or an MP7 submachine gun as a primary weapon, a special silenced 57USG as a secondary weapon, and claymore or frag grenade as a secondary gadget. A hybrid operator, able to give a lot of information with his cameras, to destroy gadgets with the 4 lasers available (remember one for each camera), but at the same time he needs to exploit tactics of flanking to place his gadgets.

The use of Sam Fisher is consistent with the story of the character and his stealth mastery, but at the same time it is consistent with what the Rainbow Six meta offers at present. Inserting an attacking operator able to provide a lot of information to the team (2 drones and 4 cameras) guarantees many possibilities of use, a unicum in the history of Rainbow Six, as well as inserting one of the operators with more possibilities to immediately enter the top of the choices users. The other great introduction is the rework of Chalet. The snow map has been redesigned to be more suitable for the current state of the Rainbow Six meta. The famous outdoor balcony overlooking the upstairs bedroom has been removed to make room for a new area, more suitable for rotation and connected with a new staircase to the lower area of the trophy room. Even the latter, smaller than in the past, will be flanked by a dining area linked to the famous kitchen. Also on the upper floor, the balcony above the main entrance has been refurbished and will now have two more walls to cover the view of the entrance to the upper study.

The garage area has also seen numerous reinterpretations with the whole area connecting the garage to the wine room being revisited to offer more rotation possibilities for defenders and better flanking possibilities for attackers. Chalet was certainly not the map that needed more and more rapid attention, but the changes made certainly allow it to become one of the most popular. Remaining in the speech maps, will also arrive this season the Map Ban before the match starts. The two teams will therefore be able to choose which map to ban among three randomly proposed by the game: the one that will remain will be the theater of the match. In the event that the two teams ban the same map, the game will randomly choose between those remaining.

EMP grenades and more

Like any new operation, Shadow Legacy will bring with it new “minor” introductions. The first is certainly the rework of the garnet EMP by Thatcher. With the new operation these grenades will no longer destroy the gadgets but will put them in time out, avoiding their use for a few seconds. This rework guarantees the ineffectiveness of the so-called “Bandit trick” since once the Bandit charge is disabled it will take many more seconds.

Another introduction will be the Ping 2.0. The classic and anonymous yellow Ping will be accompanied by Ping which, once played in correspondence with a prominent element in the game, will show the icon of that element: cameras, gadgets of the opponents or defuser to name a few. This introduction will ensure that players who play alone or without a microphone can interact more effectively with teammates. Also among the minor introductions we have the restructuring of the reinforcement of walls and hatches for the defenders. The classic two reinforcements per character will be grouped into a pool of 10 total reinforcements available at the start of the round for defense. Doing so will relieve the roomer from the reinforcement, it will allow players a greater and faster organization of the reinforcement and also the possibility for a single player to manage for example all the hatches. The viewfinders have also been modified which will now no longer see the presence of the ACOG but in addition to the classic Reflex and Holographic, players will be able to find new optics with different Zooms in the accessories customization menu. We will in fact have the Zoom 1.5x, 2.0x and 2.5x. Only snipers (Glaz specifically) will have 3.5x optics.

Last, but not least, the introduction is the arrival in secondary gadgets of the mini heavy breach charge that will allow you to create a single hole (climbable) in the reinforced walls. As you can well imagine, the impact of this introduction will have to be monitored since up to now only four operators (out of almost 100 available) have had the burden and the honor of being effective against the reinforcements of the defenders. Finally, match replay will be introduced, although initially only in Test Servers. You will then be able to review the games you have participated in, both from the player’s and the spectator’s view. This feature, although it only arrives on the Test Servers to be tested and in the case modified before being officially launched in-game, will allow you to analyze your strategies, refine the team synchrony and study the opponents.

Shadow Legacy 2

Operation Shadow Legacy will be a major watershed for the Rainbow Six meta. Sam Fisher, his impact among the attackers, the mini heavy breach charge and the restructuring of the reinforcements will be very impactful news. To judge how much players will appreciate the new version of Chalet and how much the new EMP grenades will be able to change the management of Bandit and Kaid.

CERTAINTIES

  • This Sam Fisher is a lot of fun to use on Rainbow Six
  • The management of reinforcements is careful and intelligent
  • The new breach charge is really of great impact

DOUBTS

  • To evaluate the changes to the EMP grenades since Thatcher is a unique in-game
