Railway line between Freiburg and Breisach is closed again – Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district

Due to construction work, the route of the Breisgau S-Bahn between Freiburg and Breisach will be closed again at the beginning of November. Rail travelers have to change to the bus in Gottenheim.

In the autumn school holidays between Saturday, October 30th and Sunday, November 7th, the section of the route is closed due to construction work, as announced by Deutsche Bahn.

The section between Endingen and Gottenheim is not affected. But commuters who want to travel from the northern Kaiserstuhl to Freiburg would have to change to the bus in Gottenheim. The S11 begins and ends in Gottenheim. The railway also advises that bicycles are not allowed on the buses.

Ballast between the tracks is compacted

The construction work on the route would mainly take place near Ihringen and Breisach. A so-called load tamping should take place there. Among other things, the ballast between the tracks will be compacted. This is used for track maintenance. The prerequisite for this construction work is that a necessary number of train journeys have taken place there, reports the railway. At some level crossings, parts of the road surface would have to be installed and removed again.

In Gottenheim, a natural stone wall is also being built to protect against erosion and a cable bridge is being renewed. In the further section of the route in the direction of Freiburg, there were other minor work to be done. Since the whole thing requires extensive construction site logistics, a complete closure of the route section is inevitable.
