The candidacy of the Rector of Sofia University, Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov, for President surprised me and even worried me. I did not expect that a person from our community would be a candidate of GERB. This was stated before BNT the Minister of Education Prof. Nikolay Denkov.
He explained that there are two main things that concern him in this candidacy: “One is that it is clear that the higher education system is committed to this candidacy, which will obviously be of GERB and MRF. Regarding the picture of the prevalence of COVID in schools, Denkov explained that the areas where the situation with infected and quarantined is most serious are Kyustendil, Yambol, Vidin and Montana.
The quarantined teachers have doubled and the quarantined students about 4 times.
The most worrying situation is in Gabrovo, which is already in the dark red zone. There the schools will work on a rotating basis – 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th and 11th grades will go to distance learning, and next week they will be sent back to school. These measures are planned for the next two weeks, the minister explained.
If Gabrovo leaves the dark red zone, the students will be returned to the other regime, he added.
A good example of low morbidity is Vratsa, where there is a relatively low share of quarantined students.
What will happen in the schools depends on 3 things, the minister stressed. These are:
– how the measures are observed at school
– how they are observed outside
– how many people have been vaccinated
“My call is for neither teachers nor students to be released, the measures must be observed, because we are still continuing to grow as cases,” said Prof. Denkov.
The law gives great freedom to universities, I have no worries about them, the minister added.
Rectors and deans have a lot of freedom to act, added Prof. Denkov.
When an infected child is suspected, it should be removed from the other children. From there, it is already taken over by the RHI and its condition is being established, the minister explained.
