However, rail traffic between Lelystad and Dronten will be stopped until mid-December. ProRail believes that only then will the damage caused by the short circuit in the high voltage network be repaired.

Rail traffic between Lelystad and Dronten has been stopped since 2 September. That day came during a major power outage in Flevoland a high-voltage cable from network operator Tennet ended up on a ProRail overhead line near Swifterbant. Signals, ground cables and IT security systems were also damaged.

Over a length of seven kilometers, everything has to be replaced. After that, everything must be tested to meet the safety requirements. “It takes time,” a ProRail spokesperson said Flevoland transmission. “It’s an ambitious program and it’s going to be incredibly hard work.”

Arm battle

The spokesperson is therefore also worried about the reopening of the route. There is a possibility that mid-December will not be reached due to material shortages. “We will see creatively how we do it,” says ProRail.

Until the trains resume, NS will use buses on the route between Lelystad and Dronten.
