Rafael Nadal has announced that he has tested positive for Covid-19 just a few days after meeting and sharing a table, without a mask, with King Emeritus Juan Carlos I on the day of his public reappearance in Abu Dhabi.

“Hello everyone. I wanted to announce that on my return home after playing the Abu Dhabi tournament, I have tested positive for COVID in the PCR test that was performed on me when I arrived in Spain,” announced the best Spanish tennis player in history via your twitter account.

As EL PERIÓDICO DE ESPAÑA announced, Juan Carlos I was in one of the stadium boxes where Nadal returned to the courts after four months of injury, accompanied by four more men with whom a close relationship was appreciated. In fact, in one of the moments, it is observed how the emeritus, always wearing a mask, shares confidences on his mobile phone with his closest companion.

Subsequently, shared table and chatted amicably with Nadal and his coach, Carlos Moya, as can be seen in some images published by El Mundo. Negative

The tennis player has also assured on his social networks that in recent days he has been undergoing tests every 48 hours, all of them throwing negative results. As he explained, the last of those negative tests was on Friday, obtaining the result on Saturday. The meeting with the emeritus king took place on the same Friday.

The positive for Covid-19 supposes a brake on the return to the courts of Nadal, who had been inactive for four months due to the injuries that he drags. His return to Abu Dhabi resulted in two defeats, the first against Andy Murray and the second against Denis Shapovalov.

Competitive brake

The next objective of the Balearic was to participate in the Australian Open, held in Melbourne from January 17. Before testing positive, Nadal had questioned his participation in the first Grand Slam of the season, an unknown that is now reinforced after his positive in Covid-19.

Nadal’s last official match, given that the Abu Dhabi tournament was an exhibition, dates from August 6, when he lost against the odds against Lloyd Harris in the third round of the tournament Washington. He had previously been inactive for several months, since losing the Roland Garros semi-final to Novak Djokovic, missing Wimbledon and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
