Radiators as air conditioners. More and more supporters of the idea in Poland

The first implementations involving pumping ice water into radiators have appeared in Poland. These are solutions known as the so-called trigeneration, eco-friendly and cheaper than standard air conditioners.

Thanks to trigeneration, energy losses from coal or gas can be reduced by efficient use of fuel in the power plant. According to the portal Business Insider, such a loss is then not 60 percent, but only 4 percent.

How does trigeneration work?

In order to obtain coolness from radiators, it is necessary to use a special aggregate, i.e. an absorption cooler, thanks to which it is possible to convert heat from cogeneration to cold. The unit is driven by hot water, which it then transforms into cool water and distributes it in the heating pipes of the facility.

The chilled water goes to the radiators, thus becoming a source of coldness in the room. This works in the same way as heating radiators cool room in winter. The aggregates used in this process consume a small amount of electricity compared to classic air conditioners.

Icy radiators as an alternative to air conditioning

One of the many advantages of trigeneration is its great savings fuelwhich is used not only for the production of heat but also cold. The solution is also considered ecological. Other advantages include low operating costs and long service life of the entire system.

PGE was the first entity in the country to attempt to disseminate “utility cold”.
