NIJMEGEN –
The Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen, together with the company Stogger from Panningen, has developed a ventilator for treating corona patients with serious breathing problems.
–
Due to the worldwide shortage of respiratory equipment, the hospital is calling on the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport to ‘support the device to produce the first thousand units’. The so-called VentilatiorPAL costs 370 euros each.
Simple, affordable and effective fan
The technical knowledge comes from Stogger’s engineers. Hugo Touw, an intensivist at Radboud university medical center, has advised on the ventilation requirements that ventilation equipment must meet for IC use.
What the world needs right now is a simple, affordable and effective ventilator to treat patients with respiratory problems. VentilatorPAL is available to individuals, governments and medical professionals in both the developed and the developing world, “says Stefan Dorssers of Stogger.
“Very good results so far”
Hugo Touw says: ‘I work at the IC myself and see daily how essential respirators are for the treatment of patients with COVID-19. It is not quite finished yet, but the results so far are very good. Hopefully we will contribute to a solution for the high demand for this equipment, not only in the Netherlands. ‘
In this video, Rope explains how the FanPAL works:
The VentilatorPAL is currently being tested and is on track for certification in the Netherlands and Spain. All designs and building instructions are later released on the website www.freebreathing.org, including medical and technical information, and frequently asked questions.
