RAD DG Confirms Woodside, Contradicts Macky By Shaping It

Guest of the Sunday Jury board of i-Radio this June 28, 2020, the Director General of the African Refining Company (SAR) assured that the production of the first barrel of oil in Senegal can be expected no later than 2023. “LA production is planned between 2022-2023. We have integrated the impacts of the pandemic and there is this shift which is still contained in the forecast ranges because the real risk would have been to not have raised funds before. And Senegal was very fortunate to have completed its entire process before the pandemic flooded the world in February. We are secure because all our projects work. We have secured supply from Nigeria“, said Serigne Mboup in front of the journalist Mamoudou Ibra Kane

As a reminder, in an interview with the Financial Times, President Macky Sall had reported the postponement of two years of production of the first barrel of oil in Senegal due to the Covid-19 crisis. Before the company Woodside took the opposite view of the Senegalese head of state by declaring that no postponement was planned as regards the exploitation of oil. “Woodside takes note of recent media reports that Senegal has been forced to delay its first oil and gas projects for up to two years due to the pandemic. Woodside reiterates that production of the first barrel of phase 1 oil from the Sangomar field remains on track for 2023, in line with previous guidelines“, said the partner firm in a press release.

Interrogated on these two contradictory outputs of Macky and the Woodside company, Serigne Mboup who confirms rather the Australian oil company, by indicating that Sangomar is on track for the production of the first barrel of oil in 2023, made a point of not offending its boss. According to him, there is no contradiction between the statement of the Head of State and that of Woodside. He speaks, in his opinion, the same language.

Regarding the development realization schedule for Sangomar and GTA, Serigne Mboup assures that this has been a great success for Senegal. “In general, when you have discoveries in deep water, you have 7 years to arrive at the” first-Oïl “Senegal has achieved a great performance in being able to complete this whole process in 4 years with decisions that had been taken but above all a manifest political will to go quickly.”, He said.
