Racism incident in Munich: Kippah wearers spat at Marienplatz

Altstadt – Shocking incident in the heart of Munich: a previously unknown man insulted a 23-year-old on Marienplatz in an anti-Semitic manner and spat on him.

The incident occurred on March 4th. At around 6.15 p.m., the 23-year-old stood on a staircase that leads from the underground station to the surface of Marienplatz. According to initial police investigations, the man was wearing a kippah. The police announced on Thursday whether the headgear was the reason for the crime. The State Security Commissioner has taken over the investigation.

The perpetrator, a man around 50 years old, is still being sought. The police only later became aware of the incident.

Anti-Semitic attacks in Munich are not uncommon

Again and again there are anti-Semitic attacks in Munich – for example last July when a kippah wearer was beaten. The incident involving Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Brodman also caused quite a stir: the man was insulted and molested by a group of men last summer.
