Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X Elite computer chip last week
It has ambitions to break the supremacy of Intel and AMD in the Windows world
Nine major PC manufacturers have committed to using the new Snapdragon
Last week, Qualcomm’s annual summit took place in Hawaii, where several technological innovations were revealed, most notably the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets for smartphones and the Snapdragon X Elite for computers. The latter is especially more interesting, as it has great ambitions to change the rules in the current computer world. While previous Snapdragons have been avoided by computer manufacturers, at least nine companies intend to use the new Snapdragon X Elite.
Snapdragon X Elite will be deployed by most major PC manufacturers
A representative of Honor spoke directly at the Qualcomm summit, confirming that his company will use the services of not only the mobile Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but also the computer Snapdragon X Elite next year. Until now, Honor has only produced notebooks with AMD and Intel processors, next year we will see a bold entry into the ARM waters. And Honor won’t be alone – the following manufacturers have committed to using the Snapdragon X Elite:

The list includes none of the major computer manufacturers, not even Dell, which until now has categorically rejected ARM processors. Qualcomm probably convinced him with the capabilities of the new chip, which should provide not only tremendous performance, but also high efficiency, full connectivity and its own neural coprocessor for AI operations.
Brands that are preparing computers with the Snapdragon X Elite processor
Especially in the last category, the Snapdragon X Elite is supposed to be unrivaled – it can handle large language models containing up to 13 billion parameters, and it can also use artificial intelligence for many functions, such as image and sound quality improvement, voice and face recognition, language translation or optimization performance.
DaVinci Resolve will come as a native application
Qualcomm is also working closely with Microsoft, OEM partners, game and app developers, and others to optimize the Snapdragon X Elite platform for different use scenarios. It can therefore be assumed that we will see new applications that will run natively on this chip – for example, the arrival of the DaVinci Resolve video editor, which is used by Hollywood professionals, is confirmed. On the Snapdragon X Elite processor, the cutting machine should be 1.7x faster than on 12-core Intel processors, even 3x faster when the neural coprocessor is connected.

The Windows operating system will also learn to use the neural unit properly, although its full potential will probably be unlocked only in its next generation. If the speculation so far is confirmed, Windows 12 will be introduced as early as next year, probably at the developer conference Build at the end of spring. At that time, the first computers with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor should be introduced, so it is possible that they will go into the world with a new operating system, which will undoubtedly be optimized for ARM processors.
