Ticket to qualify for the top 16 2023 Asian Cup has been secured Qatar smoothly. The defending champion still has the opportunity to defend the title in his own country.
In the history of the Asian Cup, there have been a number of teams that were able to defend the title or become champions in a row. These include South Korea (1956, 1960), Iran (1968, 1972, 1976), Saudi Arabia (1984, 1988), and Japan (2000, 2004).
There are also teams that managed to become champions when they hosted the Asian Cup. Such as South Korea (1960), Israel (1964), Iran (1968, 1976), Kuwait (1980), Japan (1992), and Australia (2015).
This year, Qatar have the opportunity to defend the Asian Cup title as well as become champions in the event when they host it.
Qatar won its first title in the Asian Cup in 2019. In the United Arab Emirates, Qatar won 2-1 against Japan in the final to win the 2019 Asian Cup.
Now Qatar is hosting the 2023 Asian Cup, which will be held in January-February 2024, with the opportunity to defend its title at home.

China’s withdrawal meant that the bidding process to host the Asian Cup started again, with Qatar ultimately being selected to host.
In the 2023 Asian Cup, Qatar progressed smoothly. Three wins were achieved in three group phase matches, without conceding a single goal.
Sequentially, Qatar beat Lebanon 3-0, beat Tajikistan 1-0, and closed the group phase by beating China 1-0. These results allowed Qatar to progress smoothly to the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup, waiting for potential opponents.
Qatar also has one of its players, Akram Afif, at the top of the top scorer list 2023 Asian Cup. Afif scored 3 goals, the same as Aymen Hussein’s collection from Iraq.
