Putri Kusuma Wardani Knocked Out in 2023 China Open: Results and Highlights

Putri Kusuma Wardani had to be eliminated in the first round of the 2023 China Open after losing to Akane Yamaguchi with a score of 12-21, 18-21, Wednesday (6/9). The Indonesian women’s singles ended in this tournament.

Putri KW started her match against Akane impressively. The rallies exhibited by Putri KW can be troublesome for Akane, who is known to have wide cruising range on the field.

Putri KW was able to create a two-point difference at 8-6 after taking advantage of Akane’s return at the net. After briefly maintaining the lead at 9-8, Putri KW lost three consecutive points which made Akane lead 11-9 at the interval.

After the interval, the pressure from Akane increased sharply. Putri KW looks desperate as she tries to survive Akane’s attacks. Akane could score an eight-point difference at 18-10.

Akane then won a game point at 20-12. Akane immediately took advantage of the first game point well. Putri KW could not reach Akane’s cross and closed the first game with a score of 21-12.

Entering the second game, Putri KW was again able to start the match well. He was again able to lead two points at 8-6.

Even though Akane put pressure on her, this time Putri KW was able to take a narrow lead 11-10 at the interval. The game then got tighter after the interval.

Akane was able to equalize at 11-11 and took the lead 13-12 through thin netting which made it difficult for Putri KW to return the shuttlecock.

Putri KW put up a fight and was able to regain the lead at 15-14. Unfortunately the returns that came out brought the score back together at 15-15.

Putri KW fell behind 16-17 but was able to turn around to lead 18-17 after winning two consecutive points. A dropshot from Akane then kept the score even, 18-18.

Akane then returned to lead 19-18 and won match point 20-18 by placing the shuttlecock in front of the net. Putri KW’s failure to cross the shuttlecock was the end of her match against Akane. It was 21-18 for Akane in the second game.

The defeat of Putri KW made Indonesia no longer have a representative in the women’s singles at the China Open. The day before, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung was eliminated because she lost to Nguyen Thuy Linh.
