Putin Tests New Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, Shows Unrivaled

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Russia claims to have launched a trial ballistic missile the new intercontinental space known as Sarmat on Wednesday (20/4).

President Vladimir Putin considers the Sarmat intercontinental missile to be Russia’s latest strategic weapon that has no match elsewhere.

Putin said the Sarmat intercontinental missile could be the latest weapon technology that would make “enemy” rethink before threatening Russia.

“This latest complex technology has the highest tactical and technical characteristics and is capable of overcoming all modern means of anti-missile defense. This technology is unmatched in the world, unmatched for a long time to come,” Putin was quoted as saying. Reuters.

“This truly unique weapon will strengthen the combat potential of our armed forces, ensure the security of Russia from external threats and provide food for thought for those who, in the heat of frenzied aggressive rhetoric, try to threaten our country,” Putin added.

The Sarmat is a new Intercontinental Ballistic Missile that Russia is expected to deploy with 10 or more warheads on each missile, according to the US Congressional Research Service.

In a statement, Russia’s defense ministry said the Sarmat was fired from a silo launcher at 15:12 Moscow time and the missile’s warhead reached a range of nearly 6,000 km (3,700 miles).

“The Sarmat is the most powerful missile with the longest target destruction range in the world, which will significantly increase the combat power of our country’s strategic nuclear forces,” the statement said.

On Russian television channels, Putin can be seen being briefed by the military that a Sarmat missile had been launched from a site in Plesetsk, northwestern Russia.

Moscow claims the missile fell on target on the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia’s far east.

The missile test took place as Russia intensified its attacks in eastern Ukraine, including Mariupol. Explosions continued to sound and casualties fell, including civilians.

Those who survive have to face the harsh facts. At least 2,000 people have no drinking water and food supplies.

The attacks that continue to occur have made the marine commander at the Azovstal nuclear power plant, Serhiy Volyna, ask for help from all world leaders.

Responding to this Russian attack, the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, called for the two countries to immediately agree on a ceasefire ahead of Orthodox Holy Week.

“Instead of celebrating new life, Easter this time coincided with the Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine,” Guterres said.
