Putin signs the decree on the annexation of the occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporiza in Ukraine

On the 29th (local time) Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree for the annexation of the Ukrainian territories of Kherson and Zaporiza to Russia, as reported by Reuters.

This signature is a preliminary procedure to the signing ceremony of the annexation treaty between these regions, which will take place in the Kremlin on the 30th.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 this year and occupied these areas.

Pro-Russian local governments in the four occupied provinces of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporaj recently approved a referendum in favor of the annexation of Russia and asked President Putin to approve the annexation.

Western countries, including the United States, claim that the referendums have been rigged and that the forced annexation of the occupied territories is ineffective because it violates international law, including the UN Charter.
