Russian President Putin says he wants an agreement between his country and the United States about harassing each other via digital means. He wants both countries to pledge not to influence each other’s elections and other internal affairs via the Internet.
In a statement leading up to the US presidential election on Nov. 3, Putin said he wants a fresh start in the relationship between the two countries. He called preventing a large-scale digital confrontation one of the most important challenges of our time. He also believes that communication between the two countries should be restored so that they can discuss important international security issues.
Intensively interfered
In the previous elections in 2016, the Russians were digitally involved in the fight, a US investigation later showed. US intelligence found out that Russia was trying to steer the elections won by Donald Trump in Trump’s favor.
Twelve Russians have been indicted for hacking emails of the Democratic Party and the Hillary Clinton campaign. Moscow has always contradicted the charges.
