Pushkov sharply responded to McFaul’s statement about riots in the US | News | News

Russian senator Alexei Pushkov argued with a statement by former US ambassador to Moscow Michael McFaul about the unrest in the United States. He posted his answer on Twitter.

The ex-deputy had previously posted a video in which a group of armed men in unmarked uniforms did not allow demonstrators to the White House to protest against racism amid the death of African-American George Floyd during police detention.

McFaul said that this was wrong, and added that Russian President Vladimir Putin allegedly sends “little green men” to annex and occupy the territory. According to him, the United States does not do this.

Pushkov called these words nonsense and recalled all American military operations, including the occupation of Iraq, the killings, chaos and slave markets in Libya, the support of terrorists in the fight against the legitimate government in Syria.

“And are you still talking about Russia?” – added the Russian senator.

This is not the first time McFaul has spoken about Russia in this vein. In February, he announced that the Kremlin was in favor of a split in American society. Then Pushkov too answered the former ambassador, pointing out that these allegations, as well as US statements about an alleged Russian conspiracy to support US President Donald Trump, contradict each other.

June 4, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova characterized similar statements about the Russian footprint in the riots in American cities “an attempt to explain internal problems by external factors.”

At the same time, the leadership of the American company Facebook conducted a study and found no influence of foreign agents on riots in the USA.

Mass protests in the USA started with minneapolis (a city in Minnesota) after an African-American George Floyd died on May 25 as a result of harsh police custody.

Later, rallies, protests and riots spread to other cities in different states. US President Donald Trump criticized governors for a weak reaction to protests and demanded to respond to the pogroms by force. The American leader regarded the riots as acts of internal terrorism.
