The Administrative Crimes Prosecutor’s Office requested from Congress the certificate of the inauguration of Samuel Pérez as a deputy.

Francisco Álvarez Morales, assistant prosecutor of the Administrative Crimes Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry (MP), requested the president of Congress, Nery Ramos, for his collaboration in providing information about Samuel Pérez, deputy of the suspended Semilla party.

“Certified copy of the act of inauguration of Representative Samuel Pérez as a representative of the Congress of Guatemala,†says the official letter sent to the Legislative Body this February 15.

In this regard, Pérez described the request as stubbornness on the part of the prosecution, due to the MP’s accusations in which they claim that the Semilla party committed alleged illegalities in its constitution.

“The MP remains stubborn. But sooner rather than later they are going to have to stop feeling comfortable that the certainty of feeling unpunished for the blatant illegalities they commit against the people of Guatemala has given them,” said the deputy who is in his second term in office. In December 2023, Prosecutor Rafael Curruchiche, head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity (FECI), presented an investigation in which he gave details about alleged irregularities in the constitution of the Semilla party.

In this case, four people were linked to the process and two of them Katherine Quezada and Jennifer Estrada, both workers of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, decided to submit to the law of acceptance of charges.

Judge Fredy Orellana sentenced them to three years in prison, this for the crime of breach of duties.
