Psychiatrist believes speech therapists are guilty

Open exchange of blows: In the lawsuit against a logophone at the district court in Wrzburg, the nerves are blank. The judgment is delayed.

In the lawsuit against a logger from Wrzburg, shreds flew unexpectedly on Wednesday. The defendant has long admitted unequivocally that he had used his activity as a therapist to abuse seven disabled boys, some of them to the point of rape. The fact that he filmed her doing this in order to be able to exchange the pictures with like-minded people makes matters worse.

Surprise: Defense searches for witnesses itself

But before the renowned psychiatrist Norbert Nedopil was able to present his report on the defendant’s motives, development and school ability, there was a surprise: Prosecutor Manuela Teubel informed about the interrogation of a senior official of the Evangelical Church in Wrzburg. The latter had informed the investigators that the defendant’s ex-husband was looking for relief witnesses on behalf of the defense among his former work colleagues in the daycare centers where the abuse had taken place.

The police secured almost half a dozen Whatsapp requests from the child-parent who was divorced. They are available to this editorial team and show that the mother of one of the most maltreated boys was targeted, who publicly campaigns against the logophone. The defendant’s ex-partner asked the kindergarten staff, by name, for intimate information about their son’s treatment – as the only one of the seven abused boys.

Trying to play down?

Did this only serve the purpose stated by the defense, to also show the good thing in therapy work with the disabled children? Or should a critic be muzzled, as her lawyer Bernhard Lwenberg suspects? His colleague Hanjo Schrepfer warned against trivializing the logophone’s offenses in order to get a lower sentence. Defense lawyer Alexander Hbner snapped back: “Bullshit, colleague!”

Co-plaintiff attorney Christian Mulzer was surprised – like the chairman Michael Schaller – that the defendant’s ex-husband stood in the service of the defense. He seemed to be shocked by his ex-crimes, had filed for divorce and cut off contact with his long-term partner. Isn’t the relationship as distant as he had shown it on the witness stand? Defense attorney Jan Paulsen denied, but the chairman warned against attempting to “open a fire to the court.” Defense attorney Hbner growled: “I’m happy to hand over the Watschenmann here, but at some point it’s over.”

Many questions about Nedopil’s report

Unaffected, however, psychiatrist Norbert Nedopil presented his report on the accused for two hours – in a private session, because intimate facts were discussed. There was little outside, except for the information that the expert found the accused fully guilty.

According to court spokesman Rainer Volkert, who attended the meeting in public, the expert estimates the risk of relapse of the accused without therapy to a little more than ten percent, but not more than 20 percent. This risk could be reduced to a very low level through therapy offered in prisons. Preventive detention seems unlikely.

The court, prosecutor, defense lawyer and co-plaintiff have many questions for the expert. This should take up most of the time this Thursday. The pldoyers are probably only held on May 7th. At least one further date would be required for the verdict to be pronounced.
