sport">PSV played a fairly hopeless game against Benfica for a half and the millions seemed far away. After the break, however, the Eindhoven team cast off all trepidation.
sport">Benfica opened the scoring after 10 minutes via Rafa Silva. It was the first time this season that the Eindhoven team faced a backlog. Pizzi could have made the 2-0 for the Portuguese before halftime, but PSV goalkeeper Joël Drommel saved.

sport">On the PSV side, the biggest chance in the first half was for Cody Gakpo, but his shot was turned by goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos. Just before that, Eran Zahavi seemed to equalize, but his goal was rightly disallowed for offside

sport">PSV came out of the dressing room energetically. After five minutes, Gakpo signed for the connecting goal after Marco van Ginkel had an excellent header chance to make it 2-1 just before.
sport">After that, Roger Schmidt’s team was in control. Benfica faltered, but escaped on chances from Mario Götze, Gakpo and Zahavi. Even in the five minutes of extra playing time, the Eindhoven players were unable to score, so that PSV will have to work in their own stadium for a place in the Champions League next week.
sport">Earlier, PSV eliminated Turkish Galatasaray and Danish Midtjylland quite easily in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League.
