Chairman PSSI Mochamad Iriawan responding to the takeover of the 2021 U-20 World Cup by the government. According to him it was natural and did not mind it.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appointed the Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, to become the Chairperson of the FIFA Indonesia U-20 World Cup 2021 Organizing Committee (INAFOC) or local organizers of the U-20 World Cup. The move also emphasized the government’s role in the preparation for the U-20 World Cup.
Iwan Bule, Iriawan’s nickname, acknowledged that because the preparation for the U-20 World Cup would later use funds from the state namely the State Budget (APBN). For that he handed over the management of World Cup preparations to the government.
“It did not take over, it could have been because Russia and Italy also had. Because this is state money and I think let the state manage it,” Mochamad Iriawan told reporters on Thursday (2/7/2020).
Iriawan’s words about Italy and Russia are true. At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, for example, the committee was handed over to the government. At that time Russia formed a local organizing committee (LOC) which was filled by government elements after being bathed by FIFA to take care of World Cup preparations.
Iriawan continued, he also took the positive side of the formation of INAFOC by the government. He said PSSI could be more focused on preparing for the best performance for the Indonesian National Team U-20.
“I am also calm and can concentrate on the national team, what is important is that it runs smoothly for me. If it is successful and successful the national team is happy,” said the former Chief Secretary of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas).
“Indonesia will also be proud. That is better for me, so we can focus, we will take TC to where we are. So we will focus on the national team,” he said.
