PSG: Mbappé, a citizen’s Sunday in Bondy for the municipal elections

Being a star does not exempt you from fulfilling your duty as a citizen. Sunday, Kylian Mbappé did not miss the appointment of the second round of the municipal elections. Although he lives in Paris, it is in Bondy, the city where he grew up, that the 20-year-old PSG attacker has been voting since he obtained the right to his majority.

If he had made the choice not to take part in the ballot during the first round because of sanitary conditions, the world champion this time did not escape his duty as a citizen. Sunday, at the end of the morning, it was all dressed in black, under a light cap and behind an occasional mask, that Kylian Mbappé went to the Coluche room to drop his ballot in the ballot box. A Sunday outing that the player shared by posting two photos on social networks. In addition to the one that immortalizes him in the middle of civic action embellished with the legend “voted”, the Parisian also broadcast another alongside the outgoing mayor PS Sylvine Thomassin.

A way, no doubt, to invite French youth in general, and Bondynoise in particular, to participate in an election that had been largely shunned by the population in the first round on March 15. It was also a way of showing support for the elected official facing her adversary Stephen Hervé (LR) at the heart of an election day, made a little more uncertain by a recent survey targeting the mayor shortly before the first round. This precious support was not enough for Sylvine Thomassin, beaten with sixty votes, to renew her lease at the town hall.

A strong link with his city

If Kylian has not yet ventured on the political field, the Mbappé family has never made a secret of the good relations maintained with the city councilor. It is thanks to them, undoubtedly, that the attacker came to present the trophy of his first title of champion won with Monaco in 2017 in Bondy. A few months later, in the wake of his official presentation at the Parc des Princes for his arrival at PSG, Mbappé had again joined his “cocoon” for the inauguration of a city stadium. A strong link with the city that the chosen one did not fail to facilitate thanks to the three giant frescoes in the effigy of the champion which have been displayed on the walls of the city since September 2017.

Three months after the Blues’ victory in the World Cup, festivities had even been organized in his honor. Rather than symbolically handing over the keys to the city, the mayor then thanked Mbappé by giving him a swimsuit and a flute, in memory of his visit to the city’s conservatory. “Bondy city of possibilities” could be read under the last fresco dedicated to the star of the city. The proof ? On Sunday, even one of the biggest football stars on the planet is a citizen – almost – like the others.
