Unsurprisingly, Paris-Saint-Germain won the 13th French Football Cup in its history, Friday night at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. The reigning French champions defeated Saint-Etienne 1-0 in the final of the 103rd edition. Neymar (14th) scored the only goal of the match. Last year, PSG were beaten in the final by Rennes (2-2 after extra time, 6-5 on penalties). The previous Parisian victories went back to 1982, 1983, 1993, 1995, 1998, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. PSG removed its 4th Cup-Championship double after 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Saint-Etienne was reduced to ten after half an hour following a violent tackle from the Stéphanois captain Loïc Perrin on Kylian Mbappé who twisted his right ankle in the action had to be replaced. The world champion nevertheless walked out of the field, even though he was limping slightly. He reappeared at the end of the match on crutches and his ankle placed in a splint.
Paris Saint-Germain are yet to play the League Cup final against Lyon on Friday July 31, ahead of their Champions League quarter-final on August 12 against Atalanta Bergamo.
