PS5 without unofficial panels. Sony blocks the sale and threatens a lawsuit

For several days we informed our community about PlateStation5.com’s plans (also known as Plate Station5), which despite presenting an attractive offer for replaceable panels for the next-gen Japanese, had to change its name to CustomizeMyPlates.com – Sony had reservations about the name, so the most sensible action was to abandon the direct reference to PlayStation 5.

Despite the difficulties, CustomizeMyPlates.com wanted to continue offering its products, and most importantly, prepare parts for many customers who eagerly ordered their panels. Company representatives previously mentioned that they did not expect such great interest – some pre-orders had to be canceled because their number exceeded the manufacturer’s capabilities.

Before starting the operation, CustomizeMyPlates.com checked what the case with PS5 panels looks like for legal reasons – at that time, Sony only had a patent pending approval, so after thorough analysis, the designers decided that offering a new product would not be a problem.

“But after just one day of operation of our website, Sony lawyers asked us to change the name (PlateStation5 at that time) due to trademark infringement. We thought that this change was enough to keep everyone happy and to be honest we hoped it was because we were already working on developing our products. “

However, this was not enough: with regard to the issues of patents and intellectual property, the lawyers demanded that CustomizeMyPlates has closed as the case will find its final in court:

“But then Sony’s lawyers told us that in their opinion Sony’s intellectual property had expanded to the panels, and if we continued to sell and distribute them in any country we would end up in court.”

Having no other choice, CustomizeMyPlates will refund all the money to players who wanted to decorate their PlayStation 5. The designers do not hide their disappointment, but the representatives of the Japanese corporation left them no choice.

As we could guess, Sony does not intend to allow other companies to design parts for PlayStation 5, so we will have to wait for official announcements – we can assume that the removable panels for PS5 will be announced at a convenient time for the Japanese.
