“2030 glorious, living utopias”, Julien Vidal imagines a utopian but achievable future

Global warming, floods, disappearance of species: our time is strewn with bad news. But, for Julien Vidal, there is no question of being defeated. “An exciting future is in the making today”. Here is the starting point of his reflection, at the initiative of the “2030 glorious” project.

A project that began with a series of podcasts on people of today who are in the jobs of tomorrow. Like Odile Rosset, collector of recyclable materials by bike or Alice Longuepe, itinerant banker. Finally, on January 19, Julien Vidal publishes his book 2030 Glorious, Living Utopias (ed. Actes Sud).

“There were the thirty glorious ones, boosted by fossil fuels, extractivism, overexploitation, accumulation and competition. There will be glorious 2030s, fueled by mutual aid, creativity, frugal innovation, awareness of a common destiny, empathy”, assures Julien Vidal in a press release.

“2030 glorious”: how to create a “new civilization”

The book invites the reader to travel in “a utopian future whose seeds are already around us”. As the 2022 presidential elections approach, the author and blogger proposes to collectively found the Republic of the living. With in particular a “Ministry of Economic and Ecological Recovery for new growth”, a “Ministry of Meaning for employment to work less and better” or even a “Ministry of Living Well Together for a Free and Rich Life”. In the various chapters, it proposes a series of policy measures to be taken until 2030, such as regulate the use of savings to support only companies in the social and solidarity economy sector”; or “reduce wage gaps with a gap of 1 to 5 to pull the lowest wages up”.

Despite this “climatic chaos”, remains the hope of creating “a new civilization”, says Julien Vidal. “The events to come will be an opportunity to invent together a sustainable and united society.”

A book full of positivism that sets out to meet those who are building tomorrow’s world today. More durable, sober and connected to the living.
