2021 will be a much better year than 2020 for the many players who have failed to get one PS5, although the latest from the industry may make her think differently.
As reported by the trusted Asian site Digitimes, the production of the next-gen console of Sony it will increase exponentially next year.
In its first four weeks of availability, unofficial data, PS5 would have placed 3.4 million units distributed all over the world.
It is a record in the history of the PlayStation brand, as indeed Sony had already pointed out close to the November 19th release.
As reported by “Industry sources”, production should go down to single digits between 16.8 and 18 million units in 2021.
It is not clear whether these units will be spread throughout the year or while stocks last, but for now we can assume that, compared to day one and the relative window, it could be up to six times easier find a PS5 in stores.
This result would be achieved thanks to the increased capacity of the production lines of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and related backend service companies.
In fact, custom signed 7nm CPUs are manufactured in Taiwanese factories AMD, with the house of graphics cards that would have managed to grab new lines from which to produce the components to be shot at PlayStation (and, let’s imagine, the same goes for Microsoft and its Xbox Series X | S).
While Sony prioritized North America and Europe at the launch, in 2021 the focus will be shifted (also, at least) to Asia, add the same sources, so it would be essential to increase the production capacity of the console.
This increased output would be scheduled as early as January, so supplies should not be long in coming.
So far, the situation in the West has been rather complicated, with several chains reopening sales from time to time after the November release and with very limited stocks.
