What happened before
When the technical details of the PS5 were announced, Sony’s lead architect Mark Cerny revealed that the “most of the 100 most played games” would also run on the new console. This was in stark contrast to the Microsoft announcement of the new Xbox Series X, which promised full backward compatibility for all Xbox One titles.
The current status at the end of March 2020 is that the wording was simply wrong. Sony believes that the majority of all 4000 PS4 titles can also be played on a PS5 – it was only expressed in a very unfortunate way. Of course, some games have to be adapted to the stronger console so that they can use the more power. Let’s see what it will really be like at the end of 2020 …
