During protests on the US National Day, demonstrators burned several flags in New York. One action took place near the Trump Tower in central Manhattan. Rallies were also held in other cities, including Chicago and Los Angeles, on Independence Day yesterday.
Trump attacks protest movement
In a speech on Independence Day in South Dakota, US President Donald Trump had accused the left wing of the political spectrum of wanting to trigger a “wave of violent crime” in the country’s cities. He wanted to crack down on attacks on “our great freedom,” Trump said in front of supporters in front of the backdrop of the Mount Rushmore National Monument. He also accused the protest movement of wanting to erase US history and tear down monuments.
The US national day on July 4th, which dates back to the Declaration of Independence in 1776, is traditionally celebrated with parades, parties and fireworks. This year he is overshadowed by the coronavirus pandemic and nationwide protests against racism and police violence following the death of African American George Floyd.
