Proposed Changes to Increase Widow’s Supplement and Other Pensions by BSP MPs

To increase the widow’s supplement to pensions, MPs from BSP with changes to the Social Security Code, introduced between the first and second reading of the draft budget of the PDO in the National Assembly.

Now the pensioner is entitled to a supplement in the amount of 26.5 percent of the pension or the sum of the pensions that the deceased spouse received.

According to the proposal the widow’s supplement should become 30 percent of the deceased spouse’s pension. The proposal envisages that the change will take effect on August 1 of this year.

According to the CSR, the supplement cannot be received together with an inheritance pension from the same testator. It is received including and above the pension limited to the maximum amount or the sum of the pensions.

From August 1, the deputies propose to recalculate pensions for labor activitygranted until December 24, 2021 inclusive, with the percentage for the years and months of insurance service becoming 1.35 for all pensions.

A change from the BSP is also proposed at teachers’ pensions. Now, teachers who have acquired the right to a pension under the general rules are paid pensions for insurance service and age from the “Pensions” fund and a supplement from the Teachers’ Pension Fund in the amount of 0.33 percent of the pension for each month for which there is insurance contribution to the fund after acquiring the right to a pension. It is proposed that this supplement be increased to 0.5 percent of the pension for each month of additional service.

To increase the monetary compensation for raising a child up to 2 years of aget and for raising a child up to the age of 8 by the father (the adopter) is another BSP idea. In the draft law, the maternity allowance for the second year will be 850 leva, not 780 leva, as stated in the draft budget.
