Profile | Yexon Huerta, the medical student seeking help to save himself

Cabimas.- Yexon Enrique Huerta Reyes, a fourth-year medical student at the University of Zulia (LUZ), was diagnosed on June 26 with bilateral pneumonia and his relatives seek help through a campaign in Gofundme to raise funds to pay for his medical treatment in a clinic in Cabimas, in the state of Zulia.

Huerta Reyes was born on November 3, 1995, at just 24 years old, he is the vice president of the student council of the institution’s School of Medicine and a founding member of the LUZ First Aid unit, a project started by a group of medical students to attend to people injured in the midst of the protests in Maracaibo registered in 2017.

Luis Guerra, one of his friends, explained to The Pitazo Yexon had pain in the lower back and difficulty breathing, so after an x-ray he was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, after he started his antibiotic treatment he did not show improvement.

On June 26 he had respiratory distress and his family transferred him to the emergency of a Cabimas clinic where he was diagnosed with gastrointestinal starting point sepsis and pancreatitis to rule out. For now, he requires hospitalization and they have not yet determined the time, so they are looking for funds so that their parents can pay for medical care.

Together by Yexon to support campaign

UnidosPorYexon is the campaign launched by the young man’s friends, colleagues and relatives to seek financial support that will allow him to continue receiving medical care in the intermediate care unit.

Yexon is also coordinator of the Merida Escolar Zulia program, a project started in 2018 by LUZ First Aid with the support of foundations that are responsible for sending food and other supplies.

At least 420 primary education children from the Víctor Lino Gómez school, located in the 26 de Julio neighborhood of Cabimas, have benefited from the school feeding program. They also keep track of their weight and height ratio to assess their nutritional status.

Guerra also said that he organized a program called “Intravenous Comedy”, which will be presented by the Zoom platform with the accompaniment of Carlos Enrique, Loncho Navarro, Alessandra Hamdan, Manuel Ángel Redondo and José Rafael Briceño. Through their account @luisdguerra they will be able to purchase the tickets that will be for the benefit of Yexon and Jesús Marcano, an 18-year-old young man diagnosed with in-hospital pneumonia.
