Clubs from the Premier League, among others, announced earlier that they would shut down their social media this weekend to emphasize that the platforms must do more against digital misconduct. In recent months, many footballers from British clubs, including Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, have been treated racially.
The boycott started on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. and lasts until Monday evening. The protest action is supported by various parties. The European football association UEFA, the English rugby association and cycling association and the Formula 1 world have now embraced the initiative.
