Prince MBS’s Dark Side Behind Ambition to Eradicate Saudi Conservatism

Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), prince of the Kingdom Saudi Arabia often in the spotlight related to a number of scandals. Especially when the murder of Jamal Khashoggi and rumors that he had planned to kill King Abdullah.

Nevertheless, MBS became one of Saudi Arabia’s pioneers towards a more modern culture. MBS issued several policies that broke the conservative culture of the Islamic country.

Some of the rules include allowing women to use bikinis on exclusive beaches and allowing women to live alone.

His full name is Muḥammad ibn Salman ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Sa’ud, he was born on August 31, 1985, quoted from Britannica. He is the son of King Salman bin Abdulaziz who now controls Saudi Arabia.

His mother was the third wife of King Salman, named Fahdah bint Falaḥ bin Sultan.

MBS is said to have been involved in the murder of Khashoggi, a journalist for The Washington Post. During his time as a journalist, Khashoggi frequently criticized MBS’s leadership in Saudi Arabia.

Khashoggi highlighted Saudi Arabia’s closeness to the Trump administration. He also opposes Saudi involvement in the civil war in Yemen.

Khashoggi disappeared while trying to process his marriage documents at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018. The journalist’s disappearance prompted the Turkish government to launch an investigation.

After raiding the Saudi consulate building, Turkish officials found some evidence to support the allegation that Khashoggi was murdered. US intelligence reports also concluded that Khashoggi was killed inside the consulate on orders from Saudi authorities. Since then, MbS’s name has continued to be linked to Khashoggi’s murder.

Not only that, the Special Rapporteur of the United Nations (UN) concluded that MbS ordered the killing of Khashoggi.
