Prince Joachim of Denmark, brother of King Frederik, is now pointing a finger at the West. He says in an interview with Danish Everything that it wasn’t until 24 February 2022 that we actually rubbed our eyes and woke up to a reality.
– The Ukrainians had already paid the price for eight years. We pay for that now. Because now we don’t have any more time, says Prince Joachim to the Altinget.
He is referring to Russia’s annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014.

Prince Joachim believes the warning lights in the West should have started flashing already in 2008, when Russia invaded Georgia.
– If you look at it very, very generally, from 1990 until 2008, then we can say that the world was really rosy. Then some things start to dawn on us. The world may not be so rosy. But the whole West continues to see the world as rosy. Then comes 2014. Then it dawns on us that the world is not, he tells the Altinget.

Last year, Prince Joachim moved to the United States to work as a defense industry attaché at the embassy in Washington.
Danish defense chief warned
In a recent threat assessment of Russia by the intelligence service of the Danish defence, it is stated that it is “probable” that Russia will be more risk-averse towards NATO countries due to the country’s strength build-up.
– It is our common understanding that Russia is not about to attack NATO tomorrow. But the time we have to improve our deterrence, so that no one feels tempted to do so, is far shorter than we thought six months ago, warned Denmark’s defense chief Flemming Lentfer.
