Prince Harry Withdraws Libel Claim Against Mail on Sunday and Faces Massive Legal Costs

The news agency reports PA. Reuters also writes about the decision.

Prince Harry had sued the tabloid over an article from 2022, which addressed the security measures around him.

It was alleged that he offered to pay for his own police protection only after taking legal action against the British authorities. In December, a court rejected the Prince’s attempt to dismiss the Mail on Sunday’s defence.

Thus, he would probably have had to stand in the witness box at the Court of Appeal in London later this year.

The prince won with another compensation claim against the newspaper regarding another case in 2022, but now he is withdrawing this lawsuit.

Daily Mail, which is in the same group, writes that the Duke of Sussex must now pay the newspaper’s legal costs, which amount to 250,000 pounds. In addition, there are his own legal expenses – so according to the Daily Mail he has to pay more than £750,000, equivalent to almost NOK 10 million, as a result of the lawsuit.
