Prince Harry Officially Changes Country of Residence on Paperwork, Moves to the United States with Meghan Markle

Prince Harry files notice with the switch in documents

The Duke of Sussex, 39, has officially changed his country of residence from the United Kingdom to the United States on paperwork following his 2020 move to California with Meghan Markle.

The switch in documents was filed at the U.K.’s Companies House in connection with Travalyst, his environmental tourism initiative. While the “date of change” was listed as June 6, 2023, according to recently obtained documents, the update was only recently made public.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex “vacate” their U.K. residence

Prince Harry’s change in country of residence coincided with the announcement that he and Meghan Markle had “vacated” Frogmore Cottage, their U.K. residence in Windsor. This announcement was made by the Keeper of the Privy Purse, who oversees the finances of the royal family.

The couple had previously been asked to leave the residence, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation. Despite extensive renovations that had cost around $3 million, the couple “fully covered” the taxpayer-funded renovations once they stepped back from their royal roles.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relocation journey

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s journey from Nottingham Cottage to Frogmore Cottage and then to their current home in the Montecito neighborhood of Santa Barbara has been eventful. After starting their life together at Kensington Palace in London, the couple moved to Frogmore Cottage where their son, Prince Archie, was born in May 2019.

The couple made headlines when they “vacated” Frogmore Cottage in 2022, but they continued to use it as a base during their visits to the U.K. They hosted a backyard party at the residence for their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday. However, their recent change in country of residence marks a new chapter in their lives.

The new home in the United States

After spending time in Vancouver Island and Tyler Perry’s Los Angeles residence, Meghan and Prince Harry bought a home in the Montecito neighborhood of Santa Barbara in the summer of 2020. They welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, to their new home in June 2021.

Prince Harry’s affinity towards the United States

In a recent interview, Prince Harry expressed his love for his new life in the United States and mentioned that he considers every single day amazing. However, when asked if he feels American, he laughed and said he was unsure of his feelings.

Prince Harry briefly considered becoming a U.S. citizen, but it is currently not a high priority for him. His focus is on other endeavors, such as his involvement in the Invictus Games Winter Training Camp.

A glimpse into the royal couple’s experience

The article also shared some personal moments from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they reminisced about their time at Frogmore Cottage. They mentioned how they went through boxes, reminiscing about their belongings and reflecting on their love story. They also cherished the memories of watching their son Archie running around in the cottage’s garden.

Looking beyond the United States

While Meghan Markle previously intended to become a U.K. citizen, she did not complete the citizenship process. She acknowledged the difficulties of the citizenship exam in a recent episode of her podcast. Prince Harry, on the other hand, returned to the U.K. to be with his father, King Charles, who had been diagnosed with cancer. During his short visit, he had a private meeting with the monarch.

As Prince Harry embarks on this new chapter of his life in the United States, he continues to remain connected to his U.K. roots, cherishing his memories and looking forward to future opportunities to visit his family.
