RoyaltyThis weekend the British Lady Celia Vestey passed away at the age of 71. She was best known as one of Queen Elizabeth’s best friends (94) and as the godmother of Prince Harry (36). The latter is said to be “heartbroken” around her going.

However, the woman was best known as one of Prince Harry’s six (!) Godparents. She was hand-picked by his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, to fill that position, alongside Prince Andrew and Diana’s former flatmate, Carolyn Bartholomew, among others. Lady Celia was also present at Harry’s baptism in St George’s Chapel, the same place where he would marry Meghan Markle years later. The woman is said to have had a close relationship with Harry all these years. She was also present at his wedding in 2018, but also at that of his brother William in 2011.

Passion for horses
Lady Celia was also part of the inner circle of Queen Elizabeth. The two women shared a passion for horses and regularly watched competitions together. Then Lady Celia and her husband were allowed to accompany the Queen in her ‘Royal Box’, and afterwards they stayed at Sandringham’s palace. It shows how close they were.

Lady Celia’s husband, Samuel Vestey, is one of the richest men in the United Kingdom. He is said to be worth a whopping 721 million pounds (794 million euros), thanks to his meat merchant Vestey Foods Group. In 1995 Lady Celia suffered a serious stroke. Doctors gave her a one in ten chance of survival, but Celia got through after the doctors removed a blood clot the size of a golf ball. She herself felt that her husband had given her the strength to recover: “He is my hero,” she said. “A tower of strength.”

Prince Harry is said to have sent his condolences privately to Lady Celia’s three children.
