Prince Andrew complains about US legal aid requests

1999 – First meeting

Andrew meets Epstein for the first time. Allegedly, Epstein’s confidante Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of newspaper magnate Robert Maxwell, introduced the two to each other.

Andrew welcomes Epstein to the Queen’s private Scottish estate in Aberdeenshire, the Daily Mail reported.

Andrew later said that he saw Epstein “rarely” – and specified: “Probably not more than once or twice a year.”

2000 – Florida vacation

Andrew and Maxwell are on vacation with Epstein at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida.

June 2000 – Epstein at Windsor Castle

Epstein and Maxwell take part in a “Dance of the Decades” party at Windsor Castle, which is given by the Queen for Andrew’s 40th birthday.

2001 – “orgies” accusations

An alleged sex slave from Epstein, Virginia Roberts, claims to have “slept with Andrew three times, including an orgy,” the first meeting allegedly taking place in Maxwell’s London townhouse.

Roberts claims to have slept with Andrew twice more, at Epstein’s New York house and at an “orgy” on his private Caribbean island.

December 2000 – surprise party

The Duke of York throws a surprise birthday party for Maxwell at the Queen’s Sandringham estate. Epstein was one of the guests. Photos show Epstein and Maxwell hunting pheasants on the property.

2006 – arrest warrant

In May 2006, Epstein received a warrant for sexual violence against a minor. Two months later, Epstein attended the masked ball party for the 18th birthday of Princess Beatrice, the daughter of Duke Andrew, at Windsor Castle.

2008 – Epstein arrested

Epstein admits the prostitution of minors and is sentenced to 18 months in prison.

2010 – Andrew and Epstein photographed together

The duke takes part in a small dinner party with “eight to ten people”, which takes place in New York when Epstein is released from prison. The Duke is photographed on a walk with Epstein in Central Park and filmed in his villa.

March 2010 – Andrew asks Epstein for loans for his wife

It turns out that in 2010 the Duke asked Epstein to lend £ 15,000 to his wife Sarah Ferguson to help her repay debts. Later she said it was a “gigantic misjudgment”.

2011 – Resigns as Minister

Andrew resigns as UK Trade Representative after Central Park Photos scandal.

2015 – Dementi of Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace denies that Andrew committed any inappropriateness after he was mentioned in U.S. court documents related to Epstein. A woman, who was later reportedly named Ms. Roberts, claims in court documents filed in Florida that she was forced to have sex with Andrew when she was 17 and under.

In April, lawsuits against Andrew were removed from the files of the US civil courts following a federal judge decision.

July 2019 – Epstein arrested again

Jeffrey Epstein is arrested and detained for sex trafficking. Three weeks later, he is found in his cell with neck injuries, the cause of which remains unclear.

August 2019 – New Andrew allegations

Newly published legal documents show that another alleged Epstein victim, Johanna Sjoberg, alleged that Andrew touched her chest while sitting on a couch in the billionaire’s apartment in Manhattan in 2001.

The Duke of York claims that he never suspected Epstein’s criminal behavior, but also admits that meeting him in 2010 was a “mistake”.

November 16, 2019 – BBC Newsnight Interview

Andrew sits down with Emily Maitlis for a 50-minute interview to draw a line under the Epstein affair. The interview turns out to be catastrophic for the prince.

November 20, 2019 – resignation

The duke withdraws from all royal duties. After a violent backlash against the interview, the duke asks the queen for permission “to resign from public duties for the foreseeable future”.
