The private newspaper Okaz and state-owned television station Al-Ekhbariya said the disclosure of the identity of the abuser was the first implementation of the Saudi sexual harassment law.

The law requires that any perpetrator of harassment of identity must be published in local media.

Al-Araqi was found guilty of “touching from behind and verbally assaulting and harassing the victim,” Okaz’s report was quoted as saying. AFP.

Name-calling and shaming are often used as punishment in a number of cases in Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia.

Perpetrators of sexual harassment began to be punished in 2018 in Saudi Arabia.

At that time, Saudi Arabia was indeed implementing a series of conservative rule reforms following the appointment of Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) as Saudi Crown Prince in 2017.

Since MbS took office, Saudi Arabia has begun to loosen conservative rules ranging from allowing women to drive, traveling without a guardian, filing for divorce, to allowing non-Muslim tourists to stay in the same room.
