“You have to be well-lit to be seen”: it is to relay this prevention message from the national Maif Prevention campaign, entitled “Think about yourself”, that this Wednesday, November 17 in the afternoon, Patrick André , head of the departmental branch, organized an awareness campaign open to all, on the Place des Épars, in Chartres.
As in the two previous editions, in 2018 and 2019, the road safety office of the prefecture of Eure-et-Loir, the road prevention of Eure-et-Loir and the Chartravélo association had set up stands next to that. of Prevention Maif. Without forgetting the Usep 28 and its traffic learning module.
Good use of electric scooters
All of them offered visitors flyers inviting them to be vigilant, but also small gifts, in particular fluorescent vests and reflective objects.
“This event is aimed at pedestrians and cyclists, but this year, we are focusing on users of electric scooters,” explains Patrick André. “By making them watch seven videos intended to make them aware of the risks they run”.
Maxime, 18, and Yaniss, 16, two students from the Lycée Philibert-de-l’Orme, in Lucé, took advantage of this event to discuss at length the proper use of electric scooters with Fabienne Renard, assistant coordinator, and two volunteers from Road Safety, Séverine and Claire.
“I would like to buy one, but first, I want to learn about the regulations”, explained Maxime. It took him well: “I did not know, for example, that one must be insured to circulate with a scooter and that if not, one is exposed to a fine of 135 €”.
