Preventing Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in OKU District: Health Service Urges Implementation of 3M Pattern

Baturaja (ANTARA) – The Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) District Health Service, South Sumatra, reminded residents in the area to implement the 3M pattern, namely draining, covering and burying to prevent the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).

Head of the OKU Health Service, Dedi Wijaya in Baturaja, Thursday, said that this year’s rainy season had an impact on increasing dengue cases in the area, even causing deaths.

The OKU Health Service noted that during the December 2023 period the number of dengue fever cases reached 25 cases, and one of the patients, a 10 year old child, even died from the disease.

“This number has increased drastically compared to the January-August 2023 period, when there were only 15 dengue fever cases,” he said.

According to him, this was due to the high rainfall that fell on OKU Regency in the past month, causing many puddles of water where the Aedes aegypti mosquito could breed.

“As a result, the Aedes aegypti mosquito population has increased, so the number of OKU residents affected by dengue fever has increased this December,” he said.

To reduce the number of dengue fever cases so that they do not continue to increase, the party immediately moved quickly to take various steps, one of which was implementing fogging in dengue-prone areas.

Apart from that, continued Deddy, his party also assigned all community health center officers in OKU to immediately distribute abate powder free of charge to residents in their respective areas.

The OKU Health Office has also issued an appeal to all residents to keep their surroundings clean by implementing the 3M pattern, namely burying, draining and covering water reservoirs so that the Aedes aegypti mosquito does not breed.

“If this is implemented, the number of dengue fever cases in OKU can be reduced to a minimum,” he said.
