President Zelensky Explains Conditions for Holding Elections in Conversation with Senator Graham

President Vladimir Zelensky in a conversation with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who said Ukraine should hold elections, explained under what conditions this is possible – Western funding and foreign observers in the trenches. About this head of state said in an interview with Natalya Mosiychuk.

“According to the law (people did it for a reason), elections are prohibited during martial law. Because it is very difficult to hold them,” Zelensky said.

He said that he talked with Graham and formulated the answer to the senator, and he was pleased.

First, the president assured Graham that the parliamentarians are ready to quickly make changes to the legislation, to the electoral code.

“I told him: if you are ready to give me five billion, because I … can’t just take five billion from the budget. for the amount, so I told him – if the United States of America, together with Europe, will give us financial support. Sorry, I’m not asking for anything. I will not hold elections on credit. I will not take money from weapons and give it to elections, either,” the president said.

Zelensky noted that in the elections it is necessary to realize the right to vote for all citizens, including military personnel and internally displaced persons abroad.

Separately, Zelensky focused on the organization of the work of polling stations, the presence of observers, including foreign ones.

“Observers should be in the trenches. I told him: you and I should send observers to the front line so that we have legitimate elections for us and for the whole world. And this is absolutely fair,” the president said.
