President Yoon Seok-yeol Promises Early Opening of Suseo-Dongtan Section on GTX-A Route and Announces Construction Plans for Line B and Line C

President Yoon Seok-yeol visited Hwaseong Dongtan Station today and held a ‘National Meeting on Metropolitan Transportation’ and inspected the GTX-A route on site.

President Yoon met with local residents and experts on the GTX train, emphasizing the era of ’30-minute commute to work in the metropolitan area’ and promising to open the Suseo-Dongtan section of Line A early in March next year.

The GTX-A route connects Unjeong, Paju, Gyeonggi Province, to Dongtan, Hwaseong, and the Suseo-Dongtan section was scheduled to open in April next year.

In addition, President Yoon gave a positive evaluation, saying that construction of Line B from Incheon National University Station to Maseok Station in Namyangju and Line C from Deokjeong Station in Yangju to Suwon Station will begin construction early next year and at the end of this year, respectively.

President Yoon said, “GTX is about building a hyper-connected wide-area economic life zone,” and that “it will greatly change not only the convenience of transportation such as commuting, but also the economic landscape of real estate and industry.”

At the meeting, President Yoon also shared his experience, saying, “I took the Gimpo Gold Line once on my way to work during the presidential election, and it was really difficult.”

In addition to the GTX, the President’s Office announced that it has decided to open three metropolitan railways, including the extension of Line 8 and the Byeolnae Line, to shorten travel times in the northeastern and southwestern parts of the metropolitan area by up to 75%, and to build a dense metropolitan railway network not only in the metropolitan area but also in regional metropolitan areas such as Daegu and Chungcheong.

In addition, starting from the first half of next year, we plan to introduce K-Pass, a Korean-style public transportation support project, to ease the burden of commuting transportation costs such as GTX, and apply discount rates to young people going to and from school and low-income families.

The President’s Office explained that today’s schedule is part of activities on people’s livelihood following last week’s attendance at the Emergency Economic and Livelihood Meeting and the Korea Small Business Convention.
