On the 27th, President Yoon Seok-yeol appointed Pusan National University Law School professor Jeong Seung-yoon as vice chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
Chung, who served as the head of the Fair Law Subcommittee at the Policy Headquarters during President Yoon’s presidential campaign, used the word ‘otoke’, an expression of misogyny, in a press release for judicial reform pledges in February, and was dismissed after controversy arose. ‘Ottoke’ is used as a mocking word in some male-choice online communities, saying that a female police officer only shouts ‘what to do’ without leaving the crime scene. In March, he was re-appointed as an expert member of the political affairs, judicial and administrative division of the Presidential Transition Committee. At the time, the transition committee expressed its position that “we are judging it as a necessary person.”
After graduating from the Department of Public Law at Seoul National University, Chung worked as a prosecutor at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutor’s Office and the Gwangju District Prosecutor’s Office’s Suncheon Branch.
