President Gustavo Petro Announces Massive Investment in Artistic Training and Cultural Programs in Manizales (Caldas)

Manizales (Caldas), May 9, 2024 (@minculturas) #GobiernoConLosBarrios. Men, women, girls and boys from society 5, in the region of San Sebastián, received President Gustavo Petro and his cabinet of ministers on the day of #GovernmentWithTheNeighbourhoods in Manizales.

In the capital of Caldas, the Minister of Culture, Arts and Knowledge, Juan David Correa, announced an investment of almost $2.9 billion for artistic training processes, strengthening libraries and cultural festivals.

“These neighborhoods are in urgent need of structural attention, as several of the leaders said. “Young people and children need to change in sensitivity, look to the future and, for this reason, President, the Sounds for the Construction of Peace program has already started here.” said the minister at the meeting.

Through this program, 1,000 boys, girls and teenagers will benefit in five educational institutions: Colegio San Jorge, Escuela Normal Superior, Gran Colombia and in the rural area of ​​La Cabaña and Miguel Antonio Caro, with an investment of $399 million. In addition, and as part of the same program, 340 trainees from Caldas University are moving to five regions to teach music to 34,200 girls, boys and young people.

Also, to strengthen the music ecosystem, the Caldas Symphony Orchestra, which has not been underfunded, will receive support from resources.

The minister said that these educational and artistic training projects must be fed with social and community strategies. For this reason, in association with the Ministry of Equality and Equality, a social neighborhood program will be carried out. “Manizales can be the main exponent of social neighborhood in the Coffee Axis and we are going to promote it”which he mentioned in his speech.

In ‘City of Open Doors’ the circus will also be strengthened, with this being a publication that will change the destinies of young people. To do this, $ 100 million will be invested in the processes of investigation, identification and identification of the knowledge and memory of the circus in this capital city.

Likewise, public libraries connected to the Public Library Network will be strengthened with $257 million, through bibliographic provision or renewal, technical advice and training processes for librarians. And at regional book fairs, creative writing workshops are supported.

Artistic and cinematographic training and distribution processes will also be strengthened and interesting institutions in dance will be enabled, with resources of 201 million pesos.

Finally, support will be guaranteed to 35 cultural projects and festivals for $1,920 million in Manizales, through the National Cultural Festival Program.

The third tour of #GobiernoConLosBarrios starts from the capital of Caldas, this time through the Coffee Axis. The next point is Pereira, where activities will also be presented to continue strengthening artists, experts and inhabitants. Social change is cultural change.
